How Safe Is Your Home?

It Only Takes 10 Minutes to Burglarize a Home

A burglar can break into a home and complete a robbery in less than 10 minutes.

To avoid drawing attention, criminals often use carefully planned tactics. They may dress professionally, rent luxury vehicles, and, in many cases, avoid selecting one specific home in advance.

In 90% of home burglaries, criminals do not know where valuables are stored. As a result, they search through the property and complete the theft in approximately 10 minutes.

In the remaining 10% of cases, burglars may have help from household employees who provide personal information about the homeowners and reveal where valuable items are kept.

Most residential burglaries occur on weekends, usually between 12:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m., when residents are more likely to be away from home.

The most commonly stolen items include safes, jewelry, cash, and electronic devices.
